Pro’s Notes, June 21st, 2010
Dear Members:
Summer is finally here!
We are ready to see all of you come out to enjoy the course and take full advantage of the magnificent conditions that we have this year.
Please check the calendar on the website to plan your vacation time and to insure course availability.
It is great that many of you are bringing guests to WGC to enjoy our course. As a reminder, the Club Rules stipulate that, “Guests may play once every 30 days on weekends, or twice on weekdays if they live within a 30 mile radius of the Club. Guests who live more than 30 miles away may play on four consecutive days once a year.” The golf shop is keeping close track of guests and the number of times that they play. If you are not certain about the eligibility of your guest(s), please inquire with the golf shop in advance of your arrival to avoid an embarrassing situation at check-in for all involved.
An item of concern that needs to be clarified is the circumstance of spectators accompanying players on the golf course. Due to the significant insurance liability that exists, it has long been a rule of the Club that non-golfing spectators are not allowed on the golf course. We know that this is oftentimes a disappointment for those of you with non-golfing spouses or guests visiting who would like to join you socially while you play. However, the policy will remain in place and continue to be enforced.
Our Junior Golf Clinics begin on July 13th and will be held on Tuesday mornings from 9 – 10 am through August 10th. The fee for a member’s child is $25 per session and for a guest’s/relatives’ child is $35 per session. All participants must be picked-up immediately following the completion of the clinic each week as staff members cannot be responsible for the supervision of your children. Additionally, all golfers, including children, must be dressed appropriately while utilizing the course and all practice facilities. Collared shirts must be worn and no denim clothing is allowed.
As the school year comes to a close, many members will be bringing children to the Club. We want to remind parents & sponsoring members to recognize their responsibility to closely supervise children at all times while on property.
Staff members cannot be responsible for the safety of unsupervised children
It is never appropriate for children under age 13 to be on property unsupervised
Children under 16 are only allowed to use the locker rooms for the purpose of using the lavatory and must be accompanied by a parent or other adult whenever using the locker room facilities
Woodstock Golf Club grounds are not appropriate play areas for children and the only “toys” that should be brought to the facility for play are golf clubs
The areas around the golf shop, clubhouse, locker rooms, and parking lot have frequent golf cart traffic. Golf carts can be dangerous machines. Children under age 16 should never be in or climbing around on golf carts as unexpected movements can cause serious injury
Junior Play
Woodstock Golf Club Rules for children under age 12 state that, “Adults who take young golfers out to play cannot themselves play, but must assume the role of non-playing caddie to insure the children’s safety.” Once a young golfer can demonstrate that they have enough proficiency to play at a reasonable pace, an adequate knowledge of golf rules & etiquette, and consistently display appropriate behavior on the course & on Club property, the pro may designate a junior golfer as an “Approved Junior Golfer”. This status will allow them to play the course with adults and eventually allow them to use the practice facilities and play the course without adult supervision.
A junior green fee will be charged for all juniors that play any number of holes unless they have a junior membership. We encourage you to help “hook a kid on golf” and want to make sure that the safety of all players is given the utmost consideration.
Please contact me, General Manager, John Rizza, or the board of directors with any questions that you might have.
See you on the tee!
Birdies, eagles, & doves,
